Our 67th Quarterly Edition for the summer of 2025 coincides with the American publication ofIs a River Alive?, a brilliant and important new book by author Robert Macfarlane. Recounting three epic journeys, Macfarlane surveys the state of Earth’s rivers and the people who are fighting for them. It’s an impossibly large story, interwoven with an extremely personal fourth river taleDonwood’s starting point for the Is a River Alive? covers was his entrancing, hand-carved linocut titled “Meander.” Manipulation of the colors and textures of the resulting prints led to a series of works, two of which were chosen for the U.S.A. and U.K. editions of the book.
The highly textured and colorful covers are printed and embossed on Sappi McCoy 100#C Silk stock. Three gloss-white staples bind-in 48 Domtar Lynx 60#T pages featuring a “Cloud Forest Gray” graph grid.

THE FINAL FRONTIER OF PENS
There are fancier pens, there are more expensive pens, but there is no pen more versatile than the Fisher Space Pen™. Fisher’s bullet-shaped pen is less than four inches long when stowed in your flight suit pocket, but when deployed, it’s a full-sized, well-balanced writing instrument featuring Fisher’s famous cartridge: a precision-fitted tungsten carbide ballpoint with thixotropic ink in a sealed and pressurized reservoir
The Space Pen is the perfect match for our indefatigable Expedition Edition notebook. These pens are the real deal; they're precision-made, durable, and capable of writing in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, and at temperatures from −30 to 250°F (−35 to 120°C). They’re made in Boulder City, Nevada, U.S.A., and trusted by demanding users all over (and orbiting above) the planet Earth.

GOOD AS GOLD
Our 65th limited Quarterly Edition for the winter of 2024 is the “Vintage” Edition. We revisited some of our favorite materials, details, and production processes to create a brand-new and old-fashioned 3-PackFor the covers, we have chosen a 100# “Royaltone” stock from the French Paper Company.
It is named “Monarch Red,” but leans more towards the color of fine wine. Perhaps a 2012 Willamette Pinot Noir? The stock features a lovely linen texture that plays well with the embossed “Metallic Antique” gold ink. The inside covers are printed with a geometric patternthat suggests the end-papers of a classic hardcover book.
Interior pages are “dot-ruled” using “Faded Antique Gold” ink on an off-white stock from Domtar. They’re also perforated for easy removal. The staples are also gold. Natch.
Fine-Tuning Adapter is a simple tool for maintaining the chosen sharpening angle while working on Hapstone knife sharpener.
